Planning ahead

August is almost over, so plans are getting into high gear for the months ahead. Actually I've not thought much about the routines of school visits and other facets which will no doubt come about at an alarming pace in the coming weeks. What I've been busy about is planning for some of the other events which will take place in September and October.

One of the things that has found its way into my calendar is the Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance of Canada (CDPAC) conference which will take place in late November. A few months ago, I submitted an abstract, proposing a presentation on the subject of the Beech Street Community Kitchen, and it was accepted.

The preliminary planning for this presentation took place this week, so in the coming weeks, I'll be working on the presentation which will be given during the conference. The third national CDPAC conference is scheduled to take place in Ottawa from November 24-26, 2008. The organizers are still working out all the details but there's a preliminary programme already available and those who wish to participate can register on-line using the CDPAC website.

This will be yet another first for me, and will provide an opportunity to spread the word about our parish outreach project to a much wider audience. The results of the first year have been absolutely wonderful. I can't wait to see what the next year will bring.

This is absolutely wonderful! There is a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes to make new projects such as Beech Street Kitchen such a beneficial endeavour for all concerned; be it recipiants, sponsors, volunteers etc. To gain recognition and serve as another model for others outside the community is fabulous. Kudos!!!
